footie asked:

Involved in an accident whereby pulled off from opposite side of road into single line of queueing traffic at a roundabout. The gap I was going to go into the other driver decided did not want to let me in and so accellerated to close the gap, in doing so coming very close to the passenger side of my car. I stopped momentarily to allow them to continue, they didn’t so I went forward damaging their wing mirror, which I could not see (small car). They say I am totally at fault, I say its 50-50. There is very minor damage to my car that I am not interested in claiming for. Can they claim off my insurance initially or do they have to claim off their own and then go to mine?
Also, if it goes through insurance, as I am not claiming for any damage, just ‘informing them’ in effect, do I pay an excess? Do I have to pay my excess on their damage?

I was even told by one company that because I work in the town centre I was not insured to drive in the town centre even if it was to visit the supermarket on non work related business.
I found this absurd. I cannot understand the logic behind this unless it is just another way to make money while minimising the conditions that would result in a payout.

What are the chances my rates will go up? I am insured on my husbands insurance and we have 2 cars so will insurance go up for both? I just want to hear people who might’ve been in the same kind of circumstances and if their rates went up and by how much! Thanks!

thabboywannab asked:

This is for the state of California.

I was in a car accident a couple of weeks ago. I only have liability insurance. After going through interviews by both insurance agents my insurance (Farmer’s Insurance) found me 100% not at fault. The other driver’s insurance (Mercury insurance) is only offering to pay 50% of damages. This is a big deal since I only have liability I would have to pay 50% from my pocket. I strongly believe I was not at fault (I was driving straight in my lane, a vehicle started making a left turn from a side street onto the street I was currently driving on. Before reaching the middle yellow lane isle where they could stop if need be, they stopped in my lane. I immediately braked and my front bumper hit the side of their front bumper.). There was also a witness that I flagged over, so there is a third party that would confirm my story. At this point should I get a lawyer? How can one say I’m 100% NOT at fault, while the other claim I’m 50% at fault?

Jim asked:

My girlfriend was just in a car accident and we need to get a new car. She drives the car for work and i get the train. I only really use it on the weekend.

Can i take out a policy on the new car and have her as a named driver, even tho she is the main driver? It works out much cheaper to do this as she has 6 points and a claim, while i have 2 NCB and a clean licence.

I filled in an online application and one of the options allows me to select Business Use for All. I assume this will cover both of us for any use regardless of who drives more?

Thanks for your help

JR
Well i am being honest i have to declare her convictions and claim during the process. My point is that Business Use for All suggest it covers her driving needs. I will contact an insurer and ask them. Certainly at no point was i suggesting i would commit Fraud! Thats why i asked here first. Thanks for responses all the same
Ok, i have spoken to insurance company (2 of them) and both confirmed that we would be covered and it was fine.

You really shouldnt give advice unless you are 100% sure that you are correct, or at least quote a source.

I will think twice before using Yahoo Answers again.

Thanks to the genuine responses. To the others, you are all bozos!
